Using Tax Search Agent

LAST UPDATED: May 1, 2023

Tax Search Agent

The Tax "Search" Agent offers a straightforward search user interface. However, beneath this simplicity lies an AI-driven search functionality to find pertinent documents. It achieves this by employing both "Similar Words and Phrases Search" and "Semantic Meaning Search" methods. Unlike other search utilities such as Google, where a simple and short search query can yield the best results, this tool favors detailed and long search queries for producing the most accurate results.

Search Example

An example of detailed and long search query could look like this:

John owns an investment property in San Francisco. The original purchase price (his basis) was $500,000. The property's current market value is $1,000,000. John has been considering selling the property to invest in a more profitable market. However, he is concerned about the significant capital gains tax that he would owe from the sale.

John identifies a replacement property, a commercial building in Austin, Texas, within the stipulated 45-day identification window. The replacement property is valued at $1,200,000, ensuring that it is of equal or greater value and that it is held for investment purposes.

Provide relevant documents for John to follow correct protocol for 1031 exchange.

The search will yield the following pertinent documents, ranked by a similarity score that ranges from 0 to 1.

Future Enhancement (Coming in Search Plus)

While both Similar Words and Phrases Search and Semantic Meaning Search provide pertinent documents for tax-related research and analysis, they may not always deliver perfect results. To address this, as a final step (included in our Search Plus), we harness the capabilities of OpenAI's GPT-4, the world's leading AI language model. This tool further refines the relevance of search results, eliminating irrelevant documents and re-ranking the similarity scores. Consequently, you receive a list of results arranged from the most pertinent to the least, enhancing the precision and efficiency of your tax research process.
